Arkabutla is a rural unincorporated area and census-designated place located in the northern part of Tate County in northwestern Mississippi. It is named after the lake and lake-side recreation area, Arkabutla Lake, which was formed in 1936 by the damming of Coldwater River for flood and erosion control, and the creation of a reservoir for recreation. The lake and area are operated by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers.
