Liberton and Craigmillar are two communities in the south-east of Edinburgh. They’re known for their quiet, residential streets and there’s plenty of green space and parks between them.
If a peaceful and picturesque walk is in order, Ravens Wood to the south of the area is ideal. This woodland area is the perfect spot for a romantic stroll, with trails and paths that go on for miles. There’s also plenty of wildlife to spot, and benches to take a break and admire the scenery. Just north of Liberton is the Hermitage of Braid, a stunning area of conservation land and gardens which is the perfect first date destination. For coffee and a catch up, Liberton and Craigmillar offer a great selection of cafés and coffee shops including the popular butchers’ café at the local bakery and the Ecco café located on the edge of the area. Both offer a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and serve up great coffee and snacks.
If a more cultural first date experience is desired, there are plenty of galleries and exhibitions around Liberton and Craigmillar. The Writers’ Museum, National Library of Scotland and Scottish National Portrait Gallery are all within a few minutes’ walk of the area and all offer great insights into Scottish heritage.
Live music and entertainment venues in Liberton and Craigmillar include The Bongo Club, a relaxed bar and venue which hosts live music, comedy and theatre performances. There’s also the Traverse Theatre, a renowned independent theatre that puts on some fantastic shows throughout the year.
If a drink or a bite to eat is on the cards, there are plenty of places to choose from. For a cosy pub atmosphere with a good selection of drinks, try The Three Horseshoes. For delicious food and an intimate setting, try Cail Bruich or The Orchard Bar & Bistro.
